Mesa residents will be able to start celebrating Halloween early when the Gathering of the Ghouls Horror Convention comes to the Mesa Convention Center this August.
The two-day event spanning an entire weekend takes place in an air-conditioned venue where thousands of people are expected to show up — from cosplayers to artists and collectors.
A haunted house, giveaways, celebrity guests and photo ops will all be part of the festivities.
One hundred different horror vendors selling merchandise will offer everything from handmade art to uncanny collectibles, decorations of the spooky season and other unique creations.
Stars of the screen and TV from the horror genre will be on site to sign autographs and take photos, as well as other photo opportunities arising from immersive horror set pieces scattered throughout the convention.
A cosplay contest will also be held for participants, from adults to children, for fans who show up with the best horror costumes.
Panels, Q&As, horror culture celebrations and a Saturday night after-party are also part of the celebrations.

The 4th Annual Gathering of the Ghouls Halloween and Horror Convention is happening on August 22 and 23 from 11 am to 5 pm at the Mesa Convention Center at 263 Center St in Mesa.
