Mesa venue prepares for music series

Mesa Arts Center will present its Mirage Summer Music Series 2022 in its Piper Repertory Theater beginning in late June.

The music series will be a total of 10 shows featuring local, national, and international artists playing an eclectic line up of classical, world, soul, folk, and jazz favorites.

Don Flemons begins the series two weeks from today on June 25. He is a multi-instrumentalist (playing guitar, banjo, harmonica, jug, quills, fife, percussion, and rhythm bones), songwriter, slam poet and actor.

XIXA, a combination of six-piece gritty guitars performing Peruvian chicha and psych-rock, is scheduled for July 2. Electric guitarist Jeff Parker and composer and guitarist William Tyler will take the stage on July 9. On July 16, Arouna and Zaza Diarra will bring their traditional West African music to the Mesa Arts Center stage. Qais Essar, a contemporary Afghan composer, takes the stage on July 23, and Rising Sun Daughter, a music work of Grace Rolland, will round out the month’s line-up on July 30.

August 6 will see a Chicago experimental rock group, Califone, perform, and folk singer Raquel Denis will be the August 13 act. The next concert in the series will be Carly Bates on August 20, who is a Phoenix native pianist, educator, and storyteller. Lastly on August 27 will be Downtown Chamber Series, a group comprising piano, woodwinds, and horn.

Tickets are 10 shows for $100. Large companies often buy ticket packages such as this as corporate gifts for their high-end clientele.
