What's Happening in Mesa, AZ…

Mesa teens run cross country

More than 250 high school teams from around the country will be participating in the 19th annual Desert Twilight Cross Country Festival coming to Mesa in late September.

Races will be divided into four divisions - a large school division for bodies with over 1,800 students, a small school division for those schools with fewer than 1,800 students, a championship races for 25 competitive teams that missed out of the sweepstakes race, and the sweepstake races for the top 25 teams. All this amounts to 26 different races. Awards will go to the top 20 winning teams, and to the championship and sweepstakes winners.

One of the most anticipated runs in the event will be the 2025 Community Race, open to all runners. This nighttime 5k run will be on a dirt, grass, and cart path lined with lights. Entry fees will be $50 until September 21st and $60 thereafter. The course will open at 4:30 pm for warmups and inspection. Desert Twilight Community Race T-shirts will go to the first 175 registrants, and other T-shirts and gear will be available for purchase. The Community 5k Race has been scheduled to begin at 8:40 pm.

Spectators at events like this occasionally get some poster printing done before hand so they can show support for their favorite runners on the day.

The Desert Twilight will take place at the Toka Sticks Golf Course, 6910 W Williams Field Road on Friday, September 26.
