Local arts center holds summer music series

The Mesa Arts Center will be holding its Mirage Summer Music Series, which starts later this month.

The series will feature six shows of classical, world, soul, folk, and jazz from local, national, and international talent.

The event will open on Saturday, July 22 with Kabarett, a 15-piece orchestra, that will perform 20th century film scores from movies such as Citizen Kane, Twilight Zone, and Vertigo. Jon Rauhouse, the famed alternative country steel guitarist, and his Combo, a six-piece band, will continue July 29, and Phoenix’s own Pijama Piyama will take the stage for the August 5 performance playing psychedelia.

The August 12 audience will enjoy Unipon32, a cover band performing high-energy funk, classic rock, and pop hits. The Shreyas Iyer Ensemble, led by Indian composer and classical pianist Shreyas Iyer, will perform compositions fusing jazz and Indian classical music components on August 19.

Downtown Chamber Series will end the Mirage Summer Music Series on August 26. The performance will feature a variety of piano pieces. The evening will end with Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion. The pianists will be Olga Gorelik and Cameron Grant, while the percussionists will be Matt Prendergast and Michael Compitello.

Fans of musicians like these often go online and purchase merchandise and music sporting the entertainers’ logo design.

Mirage Summer Music Series tickets are $60, and the event will be on Saturdays starting at 7:30 pm at the Piper Repertory Theater, 1 East Main Street.
