Two of the most popular words in English both begin with the letter “B” - bacon and beer. An upcoming event pairs them for what is sure to be one of the most delicious festivals ever held.
The 8th Annual Beer and Bacon Festival raises funds for various worthy causes and this year is supporting Boys and Girls Clubs-Alaska. The day features a competition among Alaska's top breweries, who will be competing to see who brews the best beer in the state. In addition, top chefs will be fighting it out to have their creation named the festival's best bacon dish. Other activities include a bacon-eating contest, which is an official part of the event. There may be unofficial beer-drinking contests, but organizers are leaving those up to attendees.
The festival takes place at the Lakefront Anchorage, a lodge on the shore of Lake Hood. The lake has more float plane traffic than any other site in the world; the lodge even has a bistro named the Flying Machine Restaurant. Festival goers can watch the planes land and take off from Lake Hood as they enjoy the efforts of the chefs and brewers.
The festival is set for July 25. Tickets are $60; $30 for designated drivers or others not planning to sample the brews. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for events like this, listing the participating vendors.
