Anchorage to organize upcycled runway show

The Anchorage Museum will host an event in June where people can show off outfits made from refashioned materials.

The reFashioned Haute Trash Runway Show is an event that showcases outfits by local designers who were challenged to make clothes from at least 80% upcycled materials. The participants are allowed to use recycled, thrifted, and discarded items in their designs. People can enter the event as individual designers or work with a team. There will also be live music entertainment at the museum and light bites. Guests may dress up in their own upcycled outfits for a chance to win prizes.

The reFashioned Runway Show is part of the Anchorage Museum’s REFASHIONED series, which is a collection of creative workshops where people can use recycled items to create clothing and jewelry. There will be multiple sessions offered throughout May and June that lead up to the fashion show. The workshops and the main runway program are part of the museum’s climate and sustainability initiatives.

The fashion show will be held on Thursday, June 11th from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Tickets to the program will cost $30 per person. All guests at the museum’s show must be 21 or older. Those interested in joining the event as a designer can sign up online. Museums that hold unique events like this may use brochure printing to make programs that can be passed out to attendees.
