Cabaret performer to entertain Anchorage

An artist who alternately entrances and terrifies her audiences is coming to Anchorage.

Meow Meow, who was born Melissa Madden Gray in Australia, is a dancer, actress, and most notably, a cabaret performer, who is well-known for her international tours. She has spent much of her time in the U.K., where she appeared in London's West End in the musical adaptation of the film “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg,” in which she played he Maitresse, a role she originated.

Meow Meow won the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe Prize in 2010, and the following year she was in the West End, at the Apollo Theatre for three nights with her show, “Meow Meow in Concert.” In 2012, the Helpmann Awards named her “Best Cabaret Performer” for “Little Match Girl.” California's Berkeley Repertory Theatre included her show “An Audience with Meow Meow” in its season in Fall 2014.

Cabaret performances are demanding, as the entire show revolves around the artist, who may be singing alone on stage for hours. They need to know enough material to vary their performances.

A review says:

“Musically, the show includes a wide variety of styles and contrasting moods from Kurt Weill to Radiohead, that showcase this diva’s versatile and expressive voice, with Meow translating from German and French as she sings.”

Meow Meow will be in Anchorage on March 12, 2021, at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. Brochure printing can be used to create programs for events like this.
