The Alaska Zoo in Anchorage will be offering a week-long zookeeping day camp for children in January.
Zookeeper for a Week is a program where kids aged six to ten can get a behind-the-scenes look at the duties of Alaska Zoo employees. The winter camp will include outdoor educational experiences that let children meet with animals at the zoo, listen to presentations from zookeepers, and participate in hands-on projects. Campers are asked to bring along a sack lunch from home, a backpack, a water bottle, and a face mask to wear when visiting animals.
The Alaska Zoo is a non-profit group that promotes the conservation of Arctic and sub-Arctic species. The facility originally opened in 1969 and was known as The Alaska Children’s Zoo. People can show their support for The Alaska Zoo by becoming an annual member, which includes benefits such as discounts at the group’s gift shop and unlimited admission to the zoo. Annual memberships will cost $50 for adults and $150 for families.
The zookeeper winter day camp will be held from January 2 to January 6. The cost to attend the program is $325 for members of The Alaska Zoo and $350 for non-members. Only 15 campers will be allowed in the camp. Organizations offering informative programs for kids such as this may use poster printing to promote their camps at local schools.
