What's Happening in Falkirk, Scotland…

Refurbishment plans announced for Falkirk shopping centre

Plans for refurbishing the exteriors of several shopping outlets within a retail centre in Falkirk have been submitted to the local council in the hopes of gaining approval.

The owner of Falkirk Central Retail Park is keen to give the fronts of several outlets situated in the park’s oldest section a makeover. Among the outlets that would be included in the refurbishment are TKMaxx, Currys and Halfords, with the submitted application arguing that the existing fronts for these shops are old-fashioned and unsuited to the modern era.

According to the Falkirk Herald, this application goes on to say that:

“This is particularly due to the small shop fronts and heavy canopy structure in front. Shoppers are faced with a heavy mass of red brick and plain clay tiles with unorthodox and poor quality signage.”

The retail park is owned by Corona Vulcan Falkirk Ltd and its application adds that the redeveloped fronts would complement the look of the overall park. Promotional products from outlets in Falkirk can help shops within local retail parks to advertise any sales or other offers they are running.

The owner is also seeking to secure change of use consent for the unit that used to house Mothercare, giving it the option of leasing this unit for leisure options like a gym, cinema, ice-skating rink or swimming baths.
