Plans for Falkirk cycle track get the nod
Proposals to construct a pump cycling track at a location in Falkirk have moved forward after Falkirk Council decided to grant planning permission to them at a recent meeting.
This facility for youngsters to use their bikes on would be created at Westquarter and was put forward as a way of keeping children and teenagers in Falkirk active. The planning committee for the council came down in favour of the idea on the grounds that the track would not be near enough to local houses to cause residents any issues, as well as the fact that it will provide a valuable new amenity for the area.
Financing for the development of this track is coming via the Community Choices Fund that was set up by the council, which has provided £40,000.
The original idea came from three mums living in the town, Shannon Donnelly, Emma Donnelly and Laura MacDonald.
They mounted a leaflet campaign to raise support for the track, highlighting the effect that flyer printing from Falkirk shops can have to help campaigns of this sort.
This particular campaign succeeded in attracting the interest and backing of hundreds of local people, helping to win the council over to the plan.
There is currently no exact confirmation when work to create the pump track will be getting underway as of yet.
