An ambitious redevelopment project that will see new homes and a range of other amenities built at a site in Falkirk has moved a step nearer to fruition, with a development agreement now signed.
Falkirk Council and the two firms that are driving the project, Fintry Estates and Hargreaves Land, have officially come to an agreement. This means the developers will be able to submit a planning application for the Falkirk Gateway redevelopment.
The expected cost of the scheme is £100 million. This will include 100 brand new homes as well as a hotel with 120 bedrooms, a new restaurant and pub, as well as office spaces. The chosen location is in the eastern part of Falkirk, close to the football stadium and Forth Valley College.
In total, the completed development would cover 27 acres, with over 120,000 sq ft given over to leisure, retail and other commercial use. Businesses and companies that move into the development would be able to get any business card printing that they need from existing Falkirk shops.
If the planning application is given the green light, jobs for more than 400 people could be created during the construction process and after it is completed.
This application is likely to be submitted before the end of the summer. Work on it may get underway by the beginning of 2024.
