What's Happening in Falkirk, Scotland…

Former Falkirk opticians to be converted into flats

A building in the centre of Falkirk that used to be home to an opticians is set to be converted into a number of new flats, after the planning committee for the council gave the proposal a green light.

This building is located on the High Street, and dates back to the 19th century. The optician firm Black and Lizars was based there until four years ago, and since then it has been lying vacant. A proposition to convert it from commercial premises into residential apartments was submitted to the council by Black and Lizars Ltd during the spring, and it will now begin to move forward.

The plan forms part of the wider Town Centre Vacant Regeneration Fund Grant Scheme that was set up by Falkirk Council. This is intended to help the owners of buildings within the centre of town that are either underutilised or empty. It is also able to help those who have ground floor commercial space that is too large for purpose.

When the new flats are ready to be viewed by interested buyers or potential renters, brochure printing with images of the spaces could be useful to developers.

The scheme is connected with the Town Centre Fund provided by the Scottish Government, which provides cash for projects aimed at improving the sustainability and diversity of town centres.
