Festival in Falkirk goes digital to beat virus

The people behind a popular arts festival in Falkirk are managing to beat the coronavirus and keep the show on the road by holding the 2020 event online.

This year, the Tryst Festival is taking place digitally using social media sites to bring the best artistic and musical talent in Falkirk to audiences. The event chairman, Bill McDonald, told the Falkirk Herald that the usual 10-day feast of live shows had to be cancelled because of the virus and lockdown and that they had devised this as an emergency replacement option.

The online festival kicked off on May 11th with Words and Music, by Falkirk Writers’ Circle, followed by a live show by musician Andrew Dougall. This was followed the next day by a demonstration of ceramic sculpting by local artist Susan Wade, then a live show by Sunny Stars.

Among the delights that are still to come are a ballet called Annie by Central Scotland Ballet School and a spoken-word performance by poet Jamie O’Rourke on Saturday, then a recorded gig by Tonkerers and a live concert by Falkirk Tryst Orchestra on Sunday.

Festivals like this would usually feature Promotional Products to help advertise them, but some may still decide to use poster printing as people start to go outside more.

The digital festival is scheduled to end on Sunday May 17th.
