What's Happening in Falkirk, Scotland…

Falkirk teenagers to perform at Fringe Festival

A number of teenagers from Falkirk and the wider local area will be heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival later this year, to perform in a show that puts a unique spin on Shakespeare.

The teenagers in question are pupils at four local schools: Falkirk High School, Denny High School, Braes High School and Larbert High School. They will be acting in a play called ‘Get Thee to a Nursery’, which takes the works of William Shakespeare and reinterprets them from the point of view of a child. The play is billed as a tragicomedy and it was staged with considerable success at last year’s Fringe Festival.

This year it comes with a whole new cast, including Dane Brown, Rosie Kibsgaard, Katlyn Mclay, Kate Darroch and Ruben McNiven. They have spent nine months rehearsing the play at Denny High School, so audiences can expect well-drilled performances.

When it comes to the plot, this play takes place in a nursery. A group of children rip up the collected works of Shakespeare, only to find themselves haunted by his spirit. This forces them to play out his comedies and tragedies, speaking entirely in Shakespearean language.

Those behind shows like this sometimes choose to advertise them using poster printing by Falkirk shops.

‘Get Thee to a Nursery’ features over 20 plays by Shakespeare and will run between 2 and 9 August.
