Falkirk Salvation Army offers virus hope with takeaway

The Salvation Army in Falkirk has opted to turn the drop-in café it operates in the town into a takeaway, with the aim of providing hope to local people during the coronavirus crisis.

This café is situated at Woodside Court in Falkirk and voluntary workers are now providing hot meals and drinks to those who would not otherwise have access to these during the lockdown. The meals are being created by a chef and those who need them are allowed into the building one after the other to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

The takeaway service is being made available to people between Monday and Friday from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. Services of this sort can often be supported by local printers that provide high quality flyer printing.

In addition to offering hot meals and drinks, the takeaway is also handing out packages of food to ensure that vulnerable local people are properly fed during the current crisis, with William McMurray from the Salvation Army telling the Falkirk Herald:

“It has been really good. We hand out between 35 and 45 meals a day. The clients are all very positive and understand why we have done what we have done.”

He added that the takeaway set-up allowed its users to get exercise and interaction during the lockdown.
