Falkirk FC set to get 50,000 grant

Falkirk FC is one of the football clubs in Scotland set to be given some much-needed cash, in the form of a grant worth £50,000, donated by a businessman in the area.

James Anderson is the businessman who is providing this money and it is believed that there are no pre-qualifying conditions attached to it. In total, his donation adds up to over £3 million, and it has been given to the SPFL Trust to be shared out among clubs that are struggling to cope with the loss of revenues during the lockdown imposed to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The only thing that clubs such as Falkirk will need to do to secure some of the money is to demonstrate that they are a benefit to the community. Football clubs often provide work for local businesses, such as brochure printing shops that create their match-day programmes.

The chief executive of the SPFL Trust is Nicky Reid, and before taking on that role he was a member of the Falkirk Foundation. Speaking to the Falkirk Herald he thanked Anderson for the donation, before adding:

“It will enable clubs to access vital funds during these exceptional times, whilst ensuring they can also continue to support the important community work that has been taking place over recent months.”

Anderson is also creating a fund that will provide additional financial support for clubs.
