Drink awareness campaign hits Falkirk

A new alcohol awareness campaign came to Falkirk recently, encouraging local people to cut down on the amount they drink and to see the health benefits that this brings.

The campaign to 'drop a glass size in 2013' is being run by Drink Smarter and the Scottish Government.

Drink Smarter publishes a number of resources to help raise awareness of the dangers of drinking too much and it actively encourages people to share these either online or otherwise, by offering poster and flyer artwork which can be downloaded from its website. A hard copy can then be made with full colour printing.

Falkirk residents were encouraged to head to Howgate Shopping Centre to meet the Drink Smarter team and to get practical advice on how to cut down on alcohol. The team were also giving away measuring cups which are designed to help people keep on top of the amount of alcohol they are consuming.

The Drink Smarter team also gave advice about how dropping a glass size and opting for a smaller serving of alcohol could also positively impact a drinker's waistline. One of the particular focuses of the campaign was to get women to realise that by cutting down alcohol, they may be able to drop a dress size. The team also gave advice on how cutting down the serving size of a glass of wine could also save consumers money.

More information on the campaign can be found on the Drink Smarter website.
