Decision to be made on leisure development
A decision is expected to be made in the next week about whether plans to create a new multi-purpose leisure and shopping development near Falkirk should go ahead.
The plans to redevelop land near Gilston Farm in the Falkirk area would see the currently unused land being transformed into a leisure and retail development. The development would feature restaurants, a hotel, a car dealership and some external public recreational space in the form of woodland. Developments like this one are often good for the local economy, not only creating jobs but also creating trade and business for other local firms. For example, a new hotel could call upon the services of local printing companies in Falkirk to carry out promotional brochure and flyer printing.
Falkirk Council has received the plans for redevelopment in a largely positive light. The council has stated that the plans are in line with the current local authority strategies to redevelop this area of the Falkirk region. That said, the plans have met some opposition.
Councillor Malcolm Nicol commented on the fact that the proposals lacked detail, saying:

“Outline planning consent was granted, on appeal, a couple of years ago.
“However, there is no detail here about the site and how it will look.”
