Community groups in Falkirk to be offered museum pieces
Local groups that are dedicated to Falkirk history will be given the opportunity to take items from the museum collection managed by the council, as part of plans to shake that up.
Falkirk Council has announced that it is closing down the building that currently houses this collection, on the grounds that it is no longer fit for purpose. It has also revealed that it will be carrying out a review of the collection, with the aim of reducing it in size. Any of the 36,000 pieces contained within it that are considered to be insufficiently relevant, damaged or duplicates will be removed.
As a result of that, the council is handing local history groups a unique opportunity. Following the review, they will be able to look at all of the rejected items and claim any that they consider to be worth keeping. This offer will also be extended to libraries and schools in the area.
When it comes to promoting displays of this kind, one of the options available is to use brochure printing. There are shops in Falkirk that can print information brochures for residents and tourists.
The plan that has been outlined by the council is to move the smaller collection to a more modern building. It is being claimed that this will make the pieces more accessible to the general public.
