North Lanarkshire Council is working on the standard of accommodation that is available in Coatbridge. Some of the flats in the area are scheduled for demolition. Brochure printing can be really useful in such situations when there is something new to promote to a variety of stakeholders.
It appears that the housing Plans have been affected by disruption associated with the response to the pandemic. Despite this delay, council officers have confirmed that over half of the buildings on the demolition list have been vacated. Stephen Llewellyn, a head of department, informed Lanarkshire Live:
“The first-phase plan includes the demolition of 15 towers and a number of low-rise blocks; of the initial 1700 properties, we now have 1155 empty flats and have agreed future housing options with the majority of remaining tenants.”
Back in 2017, the local authority decided to demolish nearly 50 high-rise blocks within its boundaries. Ultimately, the council would like to deliver 5000 low-rise houses by 2035.
While the demolition policy is gradually being implemented, improvements are being made with regard to the existing housing stock. As a result, over 20 blocks have gained by fitting smoke detectors and fire doors.
Significant structural work is being completed at Millbrae Court. Going forward, improvements will include the installation of fresh windows and charging technology for electric cars.
