Kathleen Jamie has served as the Makar for three years, taking over from Jackie Kay back in 2021. The award-winning poet is scheduled to relinquish the role this year, and has decided to tour the libraries of Scotland as her last act.
The Scottish Poetry Library has put the tour together, and it has seen her travel everywhere from Orkney to Sutherland so far.
Jamie has not yet visited the library in Coatbridge, but it is scheduled as one of the stops on the jaunt. She will step down as Makar in August, and the tour will come to an end the month before that, with Coatbridge serving as its final stop.
Poster printing from outlets in the area is one of the ways in which libraries can advertise special events of this kind.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Jamie said:
“As national poet, there seemed no better way of getting out around the country than to visit local libraries and bring people together in shared interest and curiosity.”
She has long been a supporter of public libraries, and will be appearing in Coatbridge on 11th July.
