Claire Duffy, an 18 year old from King's Park near Coatbridge, recently visited Malawi in Africa to help with a charity programme that refurbishes schools in the country.
The project involved repainting and redecorating the schools. Another team of volunteers undertook building work to create two new schoolhouses, each containing three classrooms. The team that Claire was part of also refurbished nine more classrooms as part of an intensive programme of work.
Speaking about the work she did, Claire said:
“We’d go in, sand down the walls, put on a few undercoats and gloss it up. We’d put up Posters and things like that. I was completely out of my comfort zone, it was really hard work. You got a break for lunch and another break you could take, but we just wanted to keep working so it was quite tough.”
Posters are an essential part of most western classrooms today, due to the fact that they can be used to help children engage with various key topics, such as important dates in history or times tables. Many local schools in the King's Park and Coatbridge areas use Posters created by local Print companies offering professional poster printing.
Coatbridge and the surrounding region is no stranger to volunteering and charity work, and Claire's experience in Malawi will have a positive influence on other local people hoping to take part in similar charity work.Get a Free Quote for Print Get a Free Quote for Posters
