The site that will be used for the construction of this housing is on Bank Street in the town. Up until recently, it was occupied by a pub called the Shark’s Mouth, but that has now mostly been demolished. When the site is ready for building to begin, a development consisting of a total of 16 homes will be constructed there.
These will be a mix of supported accommodation and social rented housing, with North Lanarkshire Council being behind the project. The pub building has only been partially demolished because sections of it will form part of the development.
That is in recognition of its importance to the history of Coatbridge. Some of its fittings will also be moved to the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life. Local attractions like museums often stock promotional Pens from Coatbridge outlets in their gift shops.
Michael McPake from North Lanarkshire Council told Project Scotland that:
“It’s great to see first-hand the work on this important project, which will transform a disused and deteriorating site into high-quality homes for local people.”
A date when the housing will be completed has not yet been revealed.
