Designer from Coatbridge claims sport prize

Coatbridge-born Alexandra Feechan has recently won an award for her cycling clothing for women.

Feechan received recognition in the category for entrepreneurship in the Sporting Chance Initiative. The event was held in Glasgow and it was an ideal opportunity for designers to swap Business Cards, since bespoke Business Cards from local printers can help people to network effectively.

The designer has commented on the success of her product to the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser, saying:

“It’s taken off really quickly, with products having sold out a few times since we launched in December; knowing that people really like what I’m doing is really positive, and it’s been a fantastic experience.”

The entrepreneur has explained how she used focus groups to see how consumers might respond to her ideas. She said that the feedback she received had been encouraging. This had added to her self-confidence before she produced prototypes with the assistance of Heriot-Watt University.

The products designed by Feechan are all made in Scotland, and merino wool is used in the manufacturing process. The aim of the designs is to boost the performance of cyclists. As a result, the designer has made a big effort to ensure the items are light.

At the awards, Feechan was honoured to make the acquaintance of Hinda Miller, who is known for her own innovative design contribution.
