While enrolled in an animal care course, the students ran a number of special events including home baking, face painting and raffles to raise money for an organisation of their choice, the South of Scotland Wildlife Hospital (SOSWH) at Barony College in Dumfries. They also used their efforts to highlight the hospital’s work, caring for injured birds of prey, red squirrels, stoats, bats and hedgehogs, by sharing information they had learned about Scottish wildlife with fellow students and staff. Course lecturer, Michael Balzo, commented:
“I’m very proud of the students and the hard work they put into raising this incredible amount.”
Individuals and organisations collecting funds for causes can sometimes benefit from flyer printing services to create leaflets that raise public awareness of their campaigns.
The Coatbridge students have now gifted the funds raised to the South of Scotland. Chair for the animal care facility, Pam Ewart has thanked them for their efforts, commenting that once lockdown has lifted, SOSWH hopes to show its appreciation to the students in person.
The funds will be used to assist animals before releasing them back into their natural habitat, with hopes of reducing the likelihood of extinction and increasing their numbers.
