Coatbridge to get new community centre

Coatbridge is set to get a brand new community centre, after the Plans for this and a second one in another part of Lanarkshire were given the go-ahead by the local council.

This centre will be constructed in the Sikeside district of Coatbridge and will be called St Stephen’s Community Hub. The idea is that it should become a multi-purpose facility at the heart of local life. It will contain a primary school, nursery classes and a Language and Communication Support Centre (LCSC). There will also be sporting and leisure amenities for people living in the town to make use of.

The site that has been selected for the construction of the centre is the one that used to be occupied by Sikeside Primary School. It has since relocated, leaving the land free to be developed.

Flyer printing from shops in Coatbridge is one of the services that the council could make use of once the hub is up and running. This would help them to promote activities taking place within it.

North Lanarkshire Council opted to approve this plan, as well as one for a hub in Chryston. This will be created by extending Chryston High School, which will provide more space for teaching and other activities.

Building work on the hub in Coatbridge is scheduled to get underway during the early part of next year.
