Coatbridge slimmer goes abseiling

Alison Hughes from North Lanarkshire has lost weight after participating in a television programme that involved an abseiling challenge.

Hughes has been assisted by Slimming World, which meets locally in a church hall. She was steered in this direction by scientists connected with the BBC Horizon show.

The programme’s makers had put a variety of dieters through different tests, in which the aim was to discover what was causing the excess weight being carried by the individuals. People were split into different groups based on why they ate too much for their needs, and were then encouraged to exercise.

If the people who assemble at Saint James’ Church wish to spread the word about their support group, they could use poster printing in Coatbridge.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Hughes commented:

“I had to abseil down a 100-feet lighthouse in The Wirral and that’s something I would never have attempted before. I’m not scared of heights, I have an irrational fear of things that are unnatural.”

According to the Daily Record, the family of Hughes backed her in her aim to shed the pounds. In the event, she has managed to lose three stone in weight. She has spoken of her pleasure at having the ability to buy different clothes, and has even said she feels younger than she did before.
