Award nomination for music club in Coatbridge

A club in Coatbridge that serves as a venue for live music performances has got the chance to win a major national award, having made it to the final stages.

The club, called 50rpm, is based within the Georgian Hotel, which is on Lefroy Street, Coatbridge. It is a popular venue among music fans in the town and the wider area.

Now, it is in contention for a prize at the annual Scottish Live Music Awards. The category that it has earned a nomination in is that of ‘Live Music Venue of the Year’.

However, it will face some stiff competition for that particular accolade. Other venues that have made it to the nominations list include King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, St Luke’s and The Barras.

The Coatbridge club was launched five years ago. It was intended as a non-profit music group for the local community and is run on a co-operative basis. There are 50 members in total that pay a fee each year.

Venues of this sort often turn to local shops that create and supply giveaway Promotional Products when they win awards. This enables them to advertise those successes and attract bigger crowds.

Iain Strefford from 50rpm said that just making it to this stage represented a real success.

The winners will be announced before the end of the year.
