A Coatbridge venue will soon be playing host to a star football player who rose to fame during his time with Celtic.
Spring will see the Eagle Inn based in Coatbridge present a special evening with Alan Thompson, who fans would describe as a Celtic “legend”. The venue will be offering its guests a chance to meet and greet the football star, and other entertainment is also planned following the event.
Inns and public houses hosting people in the public eye often enlist the aid of poster printing services to produce full-colour products that fans can have signed and take home as keepsakes.
Thompson was bought by Celtic from Aston Villa for £2.75 million. A strong midfielder, he earned a reputation for aggression and fine play, which saw him quickly become a firm favourite with the team’s fans. He scored a total of 51 goals while playing for Celtic, and is considered a stalwart of the club’s golden era.
Celtic’s assistant coach, John Robertson, likened Thompson’s technique for passing to that of the former England captain, David Beckham’s, and gave the name ‘the wand’ to his left foot.
The evening event will also feature an auction, a raffle and a live performance by regional talent Tony Bhoy Ray.
Alan Thompson will be at the Eagle Inn on March 2. The venue is located at 351 Bank Street in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, and the event will start at 7pm, drawing to a close at 11:30pm.
