Romford embroidery displayed
A local museum has been showing Romford embroidery.
The embroidery was created by Delia Pusey. She was an original member of a guild for embroiderers based in Romford. Havering Museum has put on an exhibition of Pusey’s textiles. Poster printing can add interest to a cultural offer, especially where extra information may help an audience to appreciate art.
Pusey died five years ago and her husband has been involved in making her work visible to the public. He told the Romford Recorder:
Ellen Owen is the director for Havering Museum. The building is situated on the high street in Romford. Owen has explained how she has been impressed by a dress printed by Pusey.
Owen has drawn attention to one strength of the show. The efforts of Pusey look wonderful at a distance, but a closer inspection of the results may reveal the creative subtlety of the artist.
When it came to inspiration, Pusey was not afraid of foreign influences. She travelled and produced several objects when journeying in Italy. She made a variety of pieces, including accessories like fans and purses.
Her work has been on display since February and will be until April 4th.

"Delia must have got some of her talent from her mother Beatrice and her Aunt Alice as her mother made hats for the Queen and her sister worked on the Queen's coronation dress."
