What's Happening in Romford, Essex, England…

New development planned for Romford site

A brand new development that would include multiple amenities could be built at a site in Romford, if the local council approves the plans that have been submitted.

The company behind the plans is Yaelwood Ltd, which operates and lets properties. It is hoping to construct this development at a site on Market Place that is currently occupied by a commercial unit. The chosen site is the ground floor and basement of numbers 56 to 72 and the plans for it are ambitious. The project would include a new hotel, spaces for retail use and housing.

Among the previous occupiers of this unit was Debenhams, which was based there until it closed down permanently during spring 2021. Since then, it has briefly been a branch of Home Store, but is now home to Factory Outlet.

If the plans are given approval, it will be knocked down to make way for a family living development. The proposed name for it is Swan Walk and it has been designed by Claridge Architects.

The development would feature 154 flats, a hotel with 108 rooms and retail space covering 2,000 sq m. Advertising flyer printing by Romford shops can be useful to retail outlets when they first open in the town.

A public consultation on the plans was carried out last month. Now it is down to the council to make a decision.
