Street hub to be built in Prestwich
A brand new street hub is set to be built in Prestwich, and the location that has been chosen for it is one that recently attained iconic status.
This street hub will be set up outside the branch of the Aldi supermarket chain that changed its name to ‘Aldeh’ in tribute to Oasis. That store is located in New Bury Road and has become a popular place for Oasis fans to gather since it changed its name. The store is situated not far away from Heaton Park, which was the venue the band chose for its reunion concerts.
Bury Council opted to approve plans for the hub outside it – as well as a second one outside the Prestwich branch of Lidl. However it rejected plans for a third street hub in Whitefield, on the grounds that it would affect the safety of pedestrians.
The company behind the plans is Telent, which is acting for BT. The idea is that the hubs will take the place of telephone kiosks. When companies want to make local people aware of amenities like this, print shops in Prestwich can be useful.
Once the hubs have been installed, people will be able to use them for making calls but also for accessing the internet. They will offer free Wi-Fi, a place to charge USB sticks and various other kinds of digital services.
