Dorchester could get new launderette

A new launderette could be set for construction at a site in Dorchester, which would make it the first facility of that kind that the town centre has had for 10 years.

The laundrette would be located not far from the Co-Op near Trinity Street and would be created by converting an existing building, which up until now, has always been used as a retail unit. It would be located inside the Forum Centre and was most recently home to a charity shop. The unit is currently lying empty, which may help to support the application to change its use.

When new businesses first open in the town, they often choose to mark the occasion by giving away Promotional Products to help with advertising.

The individual behind the launderette Plans is Sarah Randall, who hails from nearby Weymouth. She had earlier applied to Dorset Council for permission to create a launderette within a local arcade, only for the lease to fall through.

She states in her application that all of the washers and dryers would be professionally installed. She then adds that her Plans will involve minimal changes being made to the building, outside of essential plumbing and electrical works.

If the Plans are given the nod by the council, it would be the first time that Dorchester town centre has had a launderette in around a decade.
