Regeneration project near Edgware moves forward

Plans for a big regeneration project not far from Edgware are moving forward, with the local council now given the go-ahead to purchase a retail park.

A committee set up by Barnet Council gave the nod to Plans for acquisition of the Brent Cross South Retail Park, which will enable the council to move ahead with its Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration project. This ambitious scheme is set to involve the building of a brand new retail centre, a new Thameslink station for the region and a total of 6,700 homes.

The site on which the current retail park stands is owned by Hammerson and Aberdeen Standard, with this company having made it available to buy during 2020. However, Barnet Council has not yet revealed what it will be spending to redevelop it.

High-quality colour brochure printing supplied by shops in the same area is often used to let local people see what regeneration projects will look like when they are finished.

According to Times Series, Councillor Dan Thomas said at the meeting:

“There is a housing shortage still, and we will not address this, or rising house prices, if we do not build the homes that people need.”

He added that the Council had a responsibility to provide good housing for people both in the present and the future.
