Campaign launched to save pub near Edgware

A campaign has been launched to save a historic pub that is located near Edgware, with local people hoping that Barnet Council will step in.

The Black Horse Pub is situated in High Barnet, just a few miles outside Edgware. It is believed to have been built all the way back in 1720, but was forced to close down earlier this year. Now, people who live in the area have put together a petition as they try to ensure that the pub remains part of their district. They want Barnet Council to safeguard its future.

Star Pubs is the current owner of the Black Horse Pub, and it has been trying to find someone to take it over since the previous leaseholder left. However, unless the building is given an asset of community value (ACV) status, it could be sold and the site redeveloped.

Flyer printing by Edgware shops can be useful to people when they are setting up local campaigns, because Flyers are a quick way of spreading the word.

One of those behind this campaign is Emma Whysall from Barnet Council. She told BBC News that:
“ACV status can help save pubs and other spaces the community cares about. It gave Barnet Museum time to investigate purchasing Tudor Hall and do their due diligence.”

So far, the campaign has persuaded over 3,000 people to sign the petition.
