New mural created in Edgware for anniversary

A mural has been unveiled by the local council at a site in Edgware, which Forms one part of a wider programme of events to mark a local centenary.

This year marks the 100th year of Station Road in Edgware, and that is where the mural has been painted. It was unveiled to the public by Barnet Council this month and given the name ‘Stop and Smell the Flowers.’

It is the latest development in a programme that is intended to help bring that particular part of Edgware back to life.

The mural depicts imagery related to the history of Station Road, and the hope is that it will inspire local people to participate in the regeneration of the area. It has been integrated with a digital screen next to it that shows images that concern pollution and the need for cleaner air. These have been produced by Middlesex University and Clean Air Barnet.

Holly Graham is the artist behind the main mural. However, she worked with 75 youngsters on the design of it. Some of them attend Northgate School or Edgware Primary School, while others are members of FUSE Youth Group. Edgware Print shops can be utilised to produce printed Copies of the mural that people can buy.

Ammar Naqvi from Barnet council said it honoured the Station Road centenary and showed the impact that art can have.
