Musical performance hits the high notes

A group of children from a primary school in Edgware gave a musical performance in public recently, featuring trampolines, basketballs, noisy outfits and recycled instruments.

This unique show was put on by pupils at Woodcroft Primary School, with the assistance of Greg Sinclair, an award-winning performance artist and musician.

Sinclair spent six weeks at the school as the artist in residence, culminating in this show. He works as a composer and cellist, with his specialist areas being performance art and theatre.

Speaking to a reporter from Barnet Today, he stated that:

“I find working with children very inspiring as I can learn from their creative imaginations.”

Sinclair spent the six weeks of his residency at the school teaching the children how they can explore music in different ways, and presenting them with questions about how, what and who we choose to listen to music with, as well as the different kinds of music that can be made.

This led to the use of objects other than traditional instruments in the creation of the final piece of music.

Events such as these frequently rely on places that supply flyer printing in Edgware, so that they can be properly promoted within the local area.

The Music Excellence Awards for 2015 saw Woodcroft claim the Best School Music Department prize and the school has also committed to the Generation Culture Arts Council campaign.
