Local festival brings community together

The recent Multicultural Street Parade proved a huge success with local people, who took to the streets to enjoy all the many sounds and sights from the groups taking part.

Edgware Community Hospital was the starting point for the parade, with people from the Spanish, Angolan, Italian and Chinese communities being represented, in addition to a number of local schools.

These included Goldbeaters Primary, Colindale Primary, Woodcroft Primary, Broadfields Primary and Barnfield Primary, with several other local groups joining them.

The festivities continued once the parade had reached Silkstream Park, where several local artists, the Chinese Mental Health Association and Nutmeg Community were waiting to provide free entertainment. Numerous stalls, with toys, food and jewellery, were on offer.

Other activities provided for those taking part in the event were football, athletics and boxing, courtesy of London Athletics Football Club, Barnet FC and Barnet Sports Zone.

Speaking to Barnet Today, local resident’s association member Josy Fuoco said:

“It’s been a great event this year with more participation from the local community. People have been telling me how impressed they are and what a great event this is.”
