Housing estate project wins approval

A project to carry out an extensive revamp of a housing estate not far from Edgware has been granted planning permission, after the developer revised the proposals.

This project will focus on redeveloping the Grahame Park housing estate, which is in Colindale, near Edgware. It is set to take 15 years to complete and costs are expected to be £700 million. The first version of the Plans was rejected as it would have seen 692 social rent homes knocked down with only 435 new ones being built to replace them.

Developer Notting Hill Genesis (NHG) has now revised them to incorporate the building of 2,088 homes, of which over 1,000 are set to be affordable homes, with 346 being social rent ones. This was enough to ensure the project was given the green light and it will bring major changes to the estate.

In addition to the housing, it will also involve the construction of a new high street, which will see the estate integrated into the wider area. Furthermore, a supermarket will be added as part of the development. When new housing developments are completed, brochure printing is sometimes used so that they can be shown off to the public.

Kate Davies from NHG stated that the company was delighted to have secured the approval to go ahead with the project at the second time of asking.
