Edgware multicultural parade proves a big hit

The streets in the Burnt Oak suburb of Edgware were lined with residents recently, as a parade celebrating the area’s different cultures passed through the town.

It was the first event of this kind to be held there and saw dancers and musical performers entertain the watching crowds, along the parade route from Edgware Community Hospital to Silkstream Park.

The parade and subsequent festivities were the idea of Better Burnt Oak, although they were assisted throughout by other local organisations. North Road Community Centre, Multilingual Wellbeing Services and Burnt Oak Residents’ Association all played important roles in ensuring that everything went without a hitch on the day.

Local businesses also have a key impact on events of this kind, with Print companies in Edgware needed to supply celebratory banner printing for those participating in the parade.

Afterwards, one of the members of the Burnt Oak Residents Association, Joosy Fuoca, told the local press:

“The parade was truly a magnificent way to appreciate and celebrate Burnt Oak’s culture diversity with music, dance and style:

“Hopefully this will be the first of many more to come.”

Another organisation that contributed significantly to the celebrations was Barnet Sports Zone, which enlisted the help of London Athletics Football Club, the youth and communities group from Barnet Borough Council and Saracens, to put on various sports activities for those young people taking part in the festivities.
