Flora Frank, aged 71, was accompanied by a number of students from Bnei Akiva as she took on the challenge of the Jerusalem Marathon, and required around six and a half hours to walk the 26.2 miles.
The purpose behind her efforts was to bring in money for the Emunah Jewish charity, with the group of students representing Bnei Akiva also managing to raise £2,000 for this organisation.
Speaking to the local press, Mrs Frank said:
“In Jerusalem, there are not too many people in their 70s who do a full marathon and there was a lot of hype about me.
“I always walk, I don’t run. You would need a phenomenal amount of training to run a full marathon as Jerusalem is so hilly.”
As with other fundraising causes in the area, Mrs Frank had the option of employing flyer printing in Edgware to put the word out to potential sponsors living there.
The Emunah charity, which is Hendon-based, seeks to raise funding for children considered to be at risk, who are then cared for by its various children’s homes and by projects based in Israel.
Deborah Nathan, its director, stated that the organisation greatly appreciated all of the support.
