Edgware gets new special needs college

A new college that is set to offer educational opportunities for members of the Jewish community in Edgware who have special needs is all set to launch, in time for the beginning of the academic year.

The social centre called Maccabi House, which is located at Gideon Close in Edgware, has been turned into this college. Financing for the project was secured by Langdon, the education charity, during 2015 and the newly-christened Langdon College will meet the requirements of those aged between 16 and 25 who have learning needs in the moderate to mild range.

It will provide them with the opportunity to study courses that will give them the sort of qualifications necessary to help them achieve meaningful employment once they have graduated.

The head teacher from the Manchester Langdon facility, Chris Mayho, told the Borehamwood Times that he was pleased that people in Edgware would now enjoy the same programme of training and education that was offered to those in Manchester, adding:

“We also provide work experience opportunities to develop important life skills in a community setting, as this is the best way to acquire and practice new skills.”

Younger people in Edgware will be able to access day release courses at the college, and those running it will have the choice of using booklet printers to ensure they have all the educational resources they need.
