Delivery office near Edgware to be turned into flats

A building located not far from Edgware, that was formerly home to a delivery office for the Royal Mail, is set to be demolished so that new blocks of flats can be built on the site.

The building used to be the Whetstone Delivery Office, but after it has been pulled down, a mix of five and four storey blocks will be built there. Once the project has been completed, it will consist of a total of 41 flats, and will feature parking spaces for 35 cars. The possibility of other amenities, including a gymnasium, nursery and health centre, being added at ground floor level is also being mooted.

Barnet Council has stated that all housing developments that consist of at least 10 flats or homes should aim to make 40% of them affordable housing, but at the moment, this project is intended to be solely private. However, the housing firm behind it is willing to donate over £800,000 towards the construction of affordable homes elsewhere in the local area.

When new homes are built, the developers often turn to local Print shops that are able to supply quality brochure printing, so that they can be showcased to potential buyers.

The project has received the approval of the planning committee for the local council, but no start date for building has been set.
