Strength & Learning Through Horses is the brainchild of Dr Jemma Hockley and was originally based out of a farm in Kentish Town before moving to Edgware after its success made larger stables a necessity. The charity usually provides its mix of therapy through psychology and caring for horses to roughly 300 youngsters, but is currently unable to offer this service due to the pandemic.
This has left it short of money for the care of its horses and has led Dr Hockley to start an appeal. She is hoping to raise £5,000 to keep the service going until it can begin providing therapy sessions again. As some lockdown restrictions are eased, flyer printing campaigns could once more be a useful way of promoting appeals like this, as people begin to go out more in public again.
Speaking to Ham and High, Hockley stated that the money was primarily needed to provide the horses with feed and hay, before adding:
“With the pandemic, we have all the capital costs and paying stable staff, but without being able to see children.”
More details about the appeal and how a donation can be made are available at the charity’s website.
