Naji and Bension Tilley are taking this walk, which will take them along the Northern Line, because the cause they are fundraising for has personal significance for them. Their father suffers from Parkinson’s disease, which is driving them to try to finish the walk in less than eight hours, with all of the money that is donated going towards helping to discover a cure for this brain condition. Charity fundraisers are often promoted using flyer printing.
It was seven years ago that their father received his diagnosis and it led Bension, who has a medical degree, to opt for Parkinson’s research as his PhD field. As part of this, he helped with the development of a new statistical model that is able to predict which people with the condition will go on to get Dementia.
Talking to the Jewish News about the charity walk, he stated:
“At the time our dad was diagnosed, we knew virtually nothing about the condition. It’s imperative to raise awareness, even if you don’t know anyone who suffers with it.”
The walk is set to take place on July 28th and the brothers have already succeeded in raising £755 towards their target of £1,000.
