Plans announced for new village hall

Plans have been announced that could lead to the construction of a brand new hall within the village of Ramsdell, which is located just outside Basingstoke.

An application for planning permission has been submitted by the development firm leading the project, with the chosen setting for this hall being a site on Baughurst Road, near Christ Church. This church is currently used as a makeshift hall by various community groups in the area, due to a lack of other options.

However, with over 350 residents, Basingstoke on the doorstep, and a new housing development on the way, it is felt by many that improved facilities for the community is an urgent need – with this project being the first step.

Should the Plans be given the go-ahead, the hall would be built to a design that blends with the area’s traditional barn-style buildings, slate roofs and timber cladding. According to the Basingstoke Gazette, the application states that:

“Whilst the village has a clearly active and sociable community, the existing facilities do little to support this. The community has been utilising a wooden hall to the east of the church, which has now become unsuitable for the growing needs of the community.”

The final decision on the project is due towards the end of this month. Local groups often use places offering poster printing to help advertise their activities.
