Basingstoke venue to host African arts show

A venue in Basingstoke is set to play host to a live show that features an exciting mix of African music and culture later this year.

The show in question goes under the umbrella title of African Soul Rebels, which is a series of live shows designed to celebrate the finest artists from that continent. At the heart of the latest show in this series is Les Amazones d’Afrique, which is a collective made up entirely of female performers. They will be joined in Basingstoke on the night by Gasper Nali, an artist who hails from Malawi.

Les Amazones d’Afrique has earned a worldwide reputation for its music in recent years. The collective has played at Glastonbury, on the Pyramid Stage, and been chosen by former US president Barack Obama for his summer playlist. Its music combines traditional African sounds with modern political messaging.

The venue for the show will be The Anvil. Local venues sometimes use Promotional Products created by Basingstoke Print shops to advertise their shows. These can be designed at low cost and then handed out to people.

Gasper Nali is the other big performer for this particular show. He plays Afrobeat music on a range of instruments, from guitar and bass to a kick drum made out of cow skin.

The show is scheduled to come to Basingstoke for one night only on Wednesday, 7 October.
