A new supermarket could be coming to Basingstoke, with the news that Lidl has submitted Plans to the local council for approval for a store in the town.
The budget supermarket chain is one of the biggest in the UK and it has been looking into the possibility of opening another Basingstoke outlet for several months now. The application that it has submitted to the borough council would involve two of the units at the town’s Hatch Warren Retail Park being joined together to provide the space that is needed for the store.
One of the units that the firm is hoping to use was formerly a branch of Argos, but has been lying empty since that company moved into another space within the park. The other unit that Lidl hopes to occupy is being used by Dreams, a bed provider, but that company would also switch to a vacant spot at Hatch Warren.
If the application is successful and the store opens, other local businesses like Print shops in Basingstoke that offer flyer printing may benefit as they could be needed to help provide promotional Flyers.
