Local projects urged to apply for funding

A new community pot has been out together by the council and local housing association. With a view to funding community projects in two areas of Basingstoke, local groups are being urged to apply for the cash by the cut-off next week.

The £10,000 'Your Community, Your Choice' fund comes through the Neighbourhood Partnership, and will be made available to projects in operating in and around Buckskin and South Ham.

Talking about the plan for the cash, which has been made possible through a partnership between Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Sovereign Housing Association, councillor Hayley Eachus, said:

“This funding means that the community gets a real say in both what it needs and also what it gets in terms of community projects.”

The cabinet member for community services, continued, saying that engaging the local community will drive the partnership.

The money is intended to be used for sustainable projects. Grants of up to £2,000 are available to community groups and voluntary organisations. The cash can be used to deliver the projects successfully, from helpful flyer printing to more proactive activities.

Applications can be applied for up until Tuesday, January 7. The Neighbourhood Partnership will then whittle down the entries to a shortlist, checking that each project qualifies.

The final slate of entries will then be judged by local residents on January 29, between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm, at the Westside Community Centre in Buckskin.

The Neighbourhood Partnership comprises local councillors, community associations and groups and the local police force.
