Local paper seeks award nominees

Local newspaper, The Basingstoke Gazette, has announced that nominees are now being sought among residents of the town for the annual awards it organises to honour those who help others.

This will be the fifteenth successive year that the awards, called ‘A Place to be Proud of’ have been handed out by the paper. It was created with the aim of paying tribute to those who usually go unrecognised, as well as to reward projects and organisations that focus on improving things within the local community.

There are eight different categories, all of which are sponsored by local companies, but the 2018 awards will see the addition of a brand new category – alongside a new firm to serve as the sponsor for it.

It is called ‘Business and the Community’ and this award will honour companies that carry out community work outside of their standard operations. The sponsor will be Basingstoke Together and its chief executive, Rebecca Handley, told the Gazette:

“Basingstoke Together is delighted to support the 2018 Place to be Proud of Awards. Our sponsored category; Business and the Community, allows us to celebrate the fantastic contributions businesses make to Basingstoke and the local community.”

The nomination deadline is in late March while the awards take place during June. Printers that can provide full colour printing can be used to help create promotional Posters for awards ceremonies in the local community.
